Welcome! by Dr. David Thompson, Superintendent of Stewartville Public Schools

Dr. Thompson, Superintendent
The school year has started very successfully and I would like to thank the students, parents, staff, and community members for their cooperation in making the school year start smoothly. As a school district we have determined our focus themes for the school year will be Results, Communication, Collaboration and Change.  Teacher Professional Learning Community groups will be aligning curriculum to the state standards, implementing Peer Review methods and analyzing student assessment data to implement instructional strategies that will support improvement in student achievement.

Major areas of educational focus this year will center on more fully implementing the 1:1 Laptop Programs and BYOD technology to 3rd - 12th grade students, analyzing and interpreting local and state assessments/data, and revisiting our strategies for continuous improvement.

The 2015-2016 school year was an award winning year for Stewartville Public Schools as evidenced by the district being recognized in the following ways:
• State School Finance Award
• Food Service Award for receiving 100% on the food service audit.
• Many staff members being recognized for excellent teaching and educational leadership.
• Many students earning academic awards and scholarships.
• Activity and Athletic teams competing successfully at local, sectional and state competitions.

Thank you for your support of our students and educational programs!

I would like to thank all of our stakeholders for supporting our beautiful new school, Bear Cave Intermediate.  Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped this dream come true including the Design and Color Teams, the Football, Basketball and Soccer Teams who moved over 2000 apple boxes, the Playground Installation Crew as well as the many staff members who contributed many hours of dedicated service in setting up the building!

Thank you also to the Halcon Corporation for donating office equipment and the American Legion and Morning Lions Club for donating the American Flags.

Again, thank you to the community for allowing this building to be built to enhance our students' education.

I would like to offer to speak at any organizational meeting/function that you may be hosting. A part of my presentation would include a power point presentation that includes the 2015-2016 school year highlights, School District Goals and Focus Areas, challenges and changes in our school district, new Bear Cave Intermediate School Update, Assessment Data, District Strategic Objectives/Plan, and other requested information by you.

I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to lead District #534 into a promising and bright future!
